Aattam: A Masterpiece of Malayalam Cinema

*Aattam*, a Malayalam film that has captivated audiences with its intense narrative and stellar performances, emerged as the best in the country at the National Film Awards 2024. Directed by Anand Ekarshi, the film revolves around the harrowing experience of a female member of a theatre troupe who is sexually assaulted by the male lead during an evening at a farmhouse retreat. The film's official description captures its essence: "A crime in sight, A fortune at stake. The play goes beyond the stage."

Anand Ekarshi, in his directorial debut, has crafted a story that is both powerful and disturbing, exploring themes of power, vulnerability, and the dark underbelly of the performing arts. *Aattam* is a testament to the strength of Malayalam cinema, which continues to push boundaries and address socially relevant issues through its storytelling. The film's success at the National Film Awards 2024 is a reflection of its impact on audiences and critics alike.

 Stellar Performances Elevate Aattam

The success of *Aattam* at the National Film Awards 2024 is also due in large part to its exceptional cast. Sudheer Babu, Zarin Shihab, and Vinay Forrt deliver powerful performances that bring the complex characters to life. Sudheer Babu, in particular, shines as the male lead, whose actions set off a chain of events that lead to the film's dramatic climax. Zarin Shihab's portrayal of the victim is both heartbreaking and empowering, as she navigates the trauma and seeks justice.

Vinay Forrt, known for his versatility in Malayalam cinema, adds depth to the narrative with his nuanced performance. The chemistry between the actors and their ability to convey the emotional turmoil of their characters is a key factor in the film's success. *Aattam* is a reminder of the incredible talent in the Malayalam film industry, which continues to produce films that resonate with audiences on a deep emotional level.

 Streaming Success on Prime Video

Since its release, *Aattam* has found a new audience through streaming on Prime Video. While *Aattam* took home the National Award for Best Feature Film, the award for Best Hindi Film went to *Gulmohar*, a family drama that has resonated deeply with audiences. Directed by Rahul Chittella and starring the legendary Manoj Bajpayee alongside Sharmila Tagore, *Gulmohar* explores the complexities of family relationships and the enduring bonds that hold them together.

The film's narrative, penned by Rahul Chittella and Arpita Mukherjee, weaves a tapestry of emotions, capturing the joys and sorrows of family life. Manoj Bajpayee, known for his impeccable acting skills, delivers a performance that is both nuanced and powerful, portraying a man struggling to maintain his family’s unity amidst changing times. Sharmila Tagore, returning to the screen after a hiatus, brings grace and depth to her role, reminding audiences of her immense talent.

 A Star-Studded Cast in Gulmohar

*Gulmohar* boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including veterans like Amol Palekar, who adds a layer of wisdom and nostalgia to the narrative. Suraj Sharma and Simran, too, deliver noteworthy performances, bringing the younger generation’s perspectives into the story. The film’s ability to balance multiple characters and storylines while maintaining a cohesive narrative is a testament to Rahul Chittella’s direction.
